The OA has always been at the forefront of Scouting innovation. With the 2023 National Jamboree fast approaching, the OA seized the opportunity to create something truly special. And so, the Summit Apex program was born.

Inspired by the words of Lord Robert Baden Powell, the founder of Scouting, the Summit Apex program is a game with a purpose. It is designed to challenge and engage Scouts in a variety of physical and mental activities, all while highlighting the values and skills that all Scouts share.

At its core, the Summit Apex program is about teamwork, fun and uncovering what makes Scouting special. Scouts will work in teams to complete a series of challenges and fun activities in a half-day, outpost-style program held at Basecamp Echo of the Summit Bechtel Reserve. Along the way, Scouts will learn the importance of communication, problem-solving and trust, all while having a ton of fun.

The Summit Apex journey commences with the Apex Experience team, who will split the 2,000 or more daily participants into four “subcamps.” In these groups, national officers will lead participants in a high-energy activity to introduce, excite and prepare them for the Summit Apex journey. Following this, participants will explore the Apex Festival. The festival will consist of activities and challenges that will create the “wow” factor of Summit Apex. It will include various interactive elements that will highlight the lived and shared experiences of Scouting. At the festival’s close, the Apex Feast will cultivate fellowship among participants while sharing a special meal available only at Summit Apex. Throughout the jamboree, the Apex team will also staff an “Activation Station” that will serve as a promotional booth to engage inactive and future Arrowmen.

The Summit Apex program is not just about physical challenges. It will serve to inspire Scouts to return to their communities and share their love and passion for the program which brings us all together. Following the Apex Feast, participants will witness and experience the Apex Rally, a one-of-a-kind thematic show. The Apex Rally will encourage participants to reflect on their experiences at Summit Apex and in Scouting. Participants will leave with tools and motivation to share Scouting with their communities, both inside and outside of Scouting, following the jamboree.

Overall, the Summit Apex program is a testament to the ingenuity and creativity of the OA. By combining the best elements of Scouting with a fun and engaging program, the OA will create something truly unique and inspiring that will leave an impact. Whether you are a seasoned Scout or just starting your own adventure, the Summit Apex program and Operation Arrow will provide experiences you undoubtedly do not want to miss.
