Section Sentinel: Annual Double Vigil Golf Classic still looking for participants, donors

It's time to dust off those clubs and get ready for our 14th Annual Double Vigil Golf Classic held Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Arizona Grand Resort in Phoenix, AZ. We're excited about our new location for this year! What better time of the year is there to bask in the warm Phoenix sun with the company of your friends? It's a casual golf outing, so don't worry - no experience is required! People travel from all over the country for this event, and all are welcome: no Scouting affiliation necessary. Everybody is guaranteed to have a good time regardless of skill ability (or lack thereof!).

Register Now!

The base registration is $89 and includes your green fees, cart, practice range balls, lunch, and after-gathering. Details, registration, and other sponsorship levels are available at www.dvgc.org.

Can't make it this year?

Send a donation or sponsorship to the DVGC and your contribution will go directly to the Scouting funds supported by the tournament (read more about the DVGC Legacy Fund: Supporting Our Legacy in Scouting). Become a Tournament Hole Sponsor and we'll place a sign on the golf course with you, your company, your lodge, or council name in recognition of your support. We also have opportunities in-kind donations, so contact us if you have something that might be a good item for our raffle.

We have several highlights for you this year:

  • For the second year, we're competing for The Wadford Cup, dedicated in loving memory to the late Gene Wadford, a founding champion of the DVGC, avid supporter of the Maury Clancy Indian Campership fund, and former Western Region OA Staff Adviser. The winning foursome team will have their names engraved on the handsome trophy and gain bragging rights! We also have a smaller traveling trophy that the winners get to keep for the year. Over the last 13 years, the DVGC has contributed over $18,000 to Maury Clancy and similar funds thanks in large part to Mr. Wadford's leadership.
  • Proceeds from the tournament will go to the DVGC Legacy Fund: Supporting Our Legacy in Scouting. Last year the DVGC raised a record $5,000 for Maury Clancy, the Order of the Arrow Endowment, and the OATC Scholarship Fund (as part of the 2014 Philmont Staff Association Capital Campaign).
  • Friday evening following the tournament, everyone is invited to a gathering at Mike Hoffman's place in Scottsdale. He's once again hosting an evening of fellowship and dinner and the event is definitely not to be missed!
  • We've secured lodging at the Embassy Suites-Tempe at a discounted BSA rate of $135/night. All 2-room suites include airport shuttle service, manager's reception daily 5-7pm, cooked-to-order breakfast, and complimentary WiFi. Book online using group code BSA. The Embassy Suites is a central spot between the golf course, Mike Hoffman's house, and other area attractions including the ASU campus.
  • Every golfer will receive a commemorative stainless steel toothpick holder sporting the DVGC logo.
  • The newly-elected 2014 OA national chief and national vice chief will be once again invited to the tournament. Come golf with the celebrities! Check out our photo galleries from the past tournaments to see what you're in for.

Our goal this time is 100 golfers (we had 62 this past year). We need your help to get the word out, recruit your friends, and make this a memorable event! Register or donate today - and thanks for your support! Please let us know if you have any questions.

In service,
Rob Rosamond and David Dowty
