Unfortunately, disaster can strike at any time. Recently, the Philippines has been hit hard with super storms and earthquakes leaving many victims behind. The Order of the Arrow has set up a Philippines relief fund led by Gamenowinink Lodge, Shanghai Chapter of China. Slater Rhea, Shanghai Chapter Adviser, holds this project near to his heart:

"The recent earthquake and super typhoon in the Philippines have claimed the lives of untold thousands of people, and left millions homeless and without the most basic human needs of potable water, food and shelter."

Shanghai Chapter hopes to raise at least $10,000 to support the relief efforts. Patches are available as well for Scouts to wear and help spread the word of the fund. Every dollar raised will go to the relief effort for water, food, and shelter.

Our Obligation reminds us: "...to be unselfish in service and devotion to the welfare of others."

Slater shared with us that this is the very first year that the Gamenowinink Lodge, Shanghai Chapter of China has become active. "It has been a huge, exciting, challenging, but extremely rewarding year, and we are proud to be able to give back in this manner," Rhea commented. Just starting one year ago with no members, they had to fly in youth members and their advisers from Taiwan to conduct the ceremonies. A year later, the chapter is growing with over twenty active Arrowmen.
