Sports at NOAC

Team Sports | Swim Meet | Recreational Sports | 5k Run/Walk

     A variety of team and individual sports and athletics will be available at the conference.


TEAM SPORTS COMPETITION

     Two team sports competitions will be held this year at the National Conference.  Lodges may enter one team in each sport as shown below:

   BASKETBALL   Teams of five; youth only. Referee required!    Interested individuals should read the Basketball Rules.

   VOLLEYBALL   Teams of six; at least four youth.    Interested individuals should read the Volleyball Rules.

Competitions will be held on Monday and Tuesday of the NOAC with the finals scheduled for Wednesday, Founder's Day.

     Rules for each sport were included in the NOAC Activites Guide sent to the lodges.   Lodges are required to send their team captain (or alternate) to a briefing meeting on Sunday evening (August 2, 1998). 

CHECK THE FINAL CONFERENCE SCHEDULE UPON YOUR ARRIVAL AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY TO CONFIRM THE TIME AND PLACE OF THESE MEETINGS.    LODGES THAT DO NOT SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO THE BRIEFING MEETING WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE IN THE TEAM SPORTS COMPETITION!

SWIM MEET

     A swim meet will take place on Monday (August 3, 1998) of the Conference and feature events such as:

  • 50 meter Backstroke
  • 100 meter Backstroke
  • 50 meter Breaststroke
  • 100 meter Breaststroke
  • 50 meter Freestyle
  • 100 meter Freestyle
  • 50 meter Butterfly

     The swim meet will include a youth and an adult division.  Participants will be limited to two events.

     Scouts or Scouters planning on participating in the swim meet must undergo medical review with the NOAC Medical Service prior to the event.  This review must occur in person at the NOAC Medical Service at least 24 hours in advance of their swim and can be done on a walk-in basis between Noon and 5:00 p.m. beginning on Saturday, August 1, 1998.  To expedite this process these individuals must bring a copy of their BSA Class 3 Medical Record Form (No. 34412) which will not be returned.

     Awards will be presented for First, Second, and Third Place in each event. All competition will be on an individual basis.  All delegates will be eligible to compete in the swim meet by completing the pre-registration form in the Lodge Involvement Kit or completing a registration form at the time the lodge checks in at the NOAC registration area.

RECREATIONAL SPORTS

     Swimming, bowling, basketball, softball, tennis, volleyball, handball, table tennis, and racquetball will be offered as recreational sports.  In addition, a video game arcade is available for your enjoyment.  Arrowmen wishing to play tennis are required to bring along their own equipment.  Racquetball equipment will be provided.

     Personal identification is required to check out all sports equipment.

5K BROTHERHOOD RUN/WALK

     On Founder's Day, a 5K Run/Walk is scheduled to take place, commencing on Wednesday morning at 7:00 a.m.  The race is open to all youth and adult Arrowmen participating in the conference.  Awards will be presented to winning youth and adult participants.  How's your second wind?

      Scouts or Scouters planning on participating in either the 5K run or the 5K walk must undergo a medical review with the NOAC Medical Service prior to the event.  This review must occur in person at the NOAC Medical Service at least 24 hours in advance of the run/walk and can be done on a walk-in basis between Noon and 5:00 p.m. beginning on Saturday, August 1.  To expedite this process, these individuals must bring a copy of their BSA Class 3 Medical Record Form (No. 34412), which will not be returned.

     Interested individuals should read the Run/Walk Rules.

     Individuals desiring to participate in the 5K Run/Walk are required to attend a brief meeting on Sunday evening tentatively scheduled for 10:00 p.m.
