2008 Western Region Chief Interview

Western Region Chief, Mark Hendricks

2008 Western Region Chief Mark Hendricks.

How do you feel to be a national officer? What do you find most exciting about the role?

I am honored and humbled to serve the arrowmen of the west this year. The people I get to work with and meet will make this year unforgettable.

What are you most looking forward to?

I can't wait to meet the arrowmen of the Western Region. There are a lot of friends to be made, and a lot of experiences to be had.

What are your earliest memories of the OA?

I remember that the SPL of my troop served as the Ordeal Master during my induction. I also remember the service I did during my induction.

What was your first leadership position and what was the greatest lesson you learned from it?

My first position was librarian of my troop, which quickly taught me how much hard work pays off. (I also learned that the BSA has many Merit Badge books)

What is the coolest thing you've done in Scouting?

Climbing Mt. Adams with a paraplegic - he showed me that "high adventure" describes the people your with, not the summit you reach!

What makes you proudest to be an Arrowman?

I'm proud to be an arrowman because of what we do for non-members, individually and as an Order.

What awesome things have you done in the OA?

Singing the OA song on the top of Baldy and the Tooth during Trail Crew, beside a pristine lake during Wilderness Voyage, and with thousands of brothers at NOAC.

What makes the OA so cool?

Our enthusiasm towards the lofty ideals of the Order and the amazing opportunities we have to learn these ideals.
