Chilantakoba Lodge Service Project
For years the campers at Camp V-Bar at Salmen Scout Reservation who were working to earn one of the ten merit badges offered in the Ecology and Conservation Program Area were left without a permanent home for their classes. That was why, when the Lodge Executive Committee sat down to choose their 2007 camp improvement project, the decision was made to build a new ecology and conservation shelter.
The goal was to provide the campers a place to work on their merit badges that was easily accesible, offered enough space for the counselors to store their supplies, and have open space to teach their classes.
Blueprints were drawn up, a location was chosen, and funding was allocated by the lodge. Upon notification that the lodge had been awarded a service grant, construction plans were made, and work began.
Construction was completed in time for the beginning of camp at V-Bar, the Ecology and Conservation area now has a permanent home, and visitors to Salmen Scout Reservation have a brand new shelter at their disposal during their camping trips.
